Why do we say Muskoka is a destination location?…
You start exploring destinations for your wedding and immediately think of tropical beaches or mountain resorts. What took me years to fully appreciate is that Muskoka is, in fact, a destination wedding location.
To me, Muskoka has always been home. It’s where I grew up, where my family still lives, and where the population quadruples in the summer months as cottage country visitors return to what they consider their home away from home. It feels familiar and personal — but through the eyes of my clients, I’ve come to see it for what it truly is: a place people travel to for an experience.
Planning a wedding in Muskoka is rarely about a single day. Because guests are often traveling from near and far, couples naturally begin to design an entire weekend around the celebration. It blends breathtaking natural beauty, luxury accommodations, and a relaxed “vacation vibe” that transforms a wedding into a multi-day experience.
That experience might begin with a welcome party aboard the iconic Wenonah II — which, in my opinion, is the best way to see Muskoka: from the water. From there, the celebration continues with a thoughtfully planned wedding day, often including organized transportation to and from the venue, followed by a Sunday morning brunch before guests make their way home.
When I first started working in the wedding industry as a teenager, I understood the effort required to plan a single wedding day. What I didn’t yet understand was the magic of creating an entire weekend — a temporary world where guests feel transported, cared for, and completely immersed in celebration. Today, I am absolutely in love with where I live and work. Together with my clients, we create beautiful, intentional weekends that feel like a mini vacation — all in honour of a couple’s marriage.
When I first sign on with a client, I always ask the same question: What kind of experience do you want to create?
And the answer is almost always the same.
“I want to give my guests a weekend of fun and make sure they’re truly taken care of.”
Couples understand what it means to take time off work, hire a babysitter, and drive two or three hours to attend a wedding. They deeply value the people making that effort — and they want every single guest to feel important, appreciated, and special.
The wedding day is about the couple, and we always want to ensure we are celebrating them however they’d like, and it is such a beautiful thing to see that these couples put so much effort into ensuring their guests are having just as much fun as they are.
